The heralded US Army’s 101’st Airborne (nicknamed “The Screaming Eagles”) has an illustrious military history dating back to the invasion of Normandy in early June 1944.
Stephen Ambrose’s excellent book “Band Of Brothers” was later turned into a magnificent HBO mini-series by the same name. The book has always stuck with me, and occasionally I will re-read it, as it is one of the few books on the subject which provides a viewpoint of a small unit (as opposed to the macro level). To this day the unit performs with outstanding virtuosity.
Performance-wise, the piece should have some snap to it. It should be played with a slightly more forceful tongue than an average piece.
