Osen (2024)

According to Google Translate, “Osen” means autumn in Ukranian, and in Old Norse, it refers to the “mouth of a river.” It happens to also be part of the name of one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles “Izakaya Osen. ” While this music isn’t technically program music (music that accompanies some visual medium – even imagined visuals), I do invite you to keep either three of those scenarios in your head while listening to the music. Better still, perhaps find a way to intertwine the three of them (good luck fitting the sushi restaurant in there)!
If you enjoy the harmonies and orchestration in this piece, know that I was greatly inspired by the wonderful music of Eric Whitacre, James Horner, and John Williams, especially Williams’ brilliant “Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone” – Harry’s theme and the other non-magical (muggle?) bits.
